Mirrored and with messages transformed into light, ATELIER ORBIT24 is turning into a lighthouse over Frankfurt Fechenheim. In this project, we are moving Buddhist mantras to the center of interest. Not as usual, however, as chanted word chains, but as a Morse code, which in turn is transformed into light signs. These are beamed from our light house (the ATELIER ORBIT24) over the city, thus creating the title ENLIGHTNING HOUSE".
Does a binary illumination of mantra information on the city and its inhabitants have the same effect as the repeated recitation of a combination of words?
Enlightenment in the spiritual sense is described as follows: "[The] everyday consciousness has been transcended and one gains a permanent special insight into a holistic reality. Or: "The ego-consciousness is erased and replaced by a unity consciousness". As artists we also experience art as a meditative process, as moments of self-transcendence, and this in turn makes us feel meditation in a spiritual context as familiar territory.
The interplay of light between light and dark, using the Morse code, also symbolizes the coming and passing of life.
In addition, Elke Hessel from Tibethaus Frankfurt will speak about the cultural and historical background of mantras. A further cooperation with the observatory/the Physical Association will enrich our project, in which the phenomenon of darkness will be brought nearer to us through a lecture by Volker Heinrich.
