Xenorama – Studio for Audio-Visual Art
Alfred-Wegener-Institut (AWI)
It is the largest-scale Arctic expedition of all time: Since fall 2019, the research icebreaker Polarstern is drifting through the Arctic Ocean. On the MOSAiC expedition, scientists from 20 nations explore the Arctic over the course of the year. The vessel is anchored to an ice floe on which a research camp with various measuring stations has been set up. The century expedition started on September 20, 2019 in Tromsø with a farewell event to Polarstern. The interactive installation "MOSAiC" celebrated its premiere there. The surface projected onto the ground shows ice floes that drift apart when you enter. Experience for yourself how the ice crackles and breaks beneath you.
Xenorama is a Studio for audio-visual art from Potsdam and Bremen. We combine digital expertise with artistic curiosity in the fields of projection mapping, digital design, experimental animation, real-time programming, sound design and music composition.
As the Helmholtz Centre for Polar and Marine Research, the Alfred Wegener Institute (AWI) is primarily active in the cold and temperate regions of the world. The AWI is involved to decipher the complicated processes in the "system of earth".
