People have a need for employment & effectiveness, proximity, social interaction, diversity and freedom. Cities would seem to make this possible, which is why they have we long attracted us. Only we ourselves make a junction of traffic and trade routes habitable. The more we can admit to these needs - the more we can be ourselves - the brighter we "shine". Frankfurt is a gleaming city, with a radiant skyline, bright pavements, streets, parks and shops. But only we make the city shine. And the more we ourselves shine, the better – and more worthwhile, life in this city becomes.
With the category "Better City", the LUMINALE has set itself the goal of providing stimulus for sustainable urban development and showcasing projects that add lasting value to the city's residents in terms of the environment, safety, cityscape, mobility, lighting, or peaceful coexistence, and which has inspired us to realize a community project that is for and with the people of Frankfurt.
We, Sebastian and Julia, will make this light tangible for everyone at the LUMINALE - a gathering of so many different people: Every day, for, and above all, with, everyone.
Based on Joseph Beuys' expanded concept of art, we would like to invite you, the visitors to the LUMINALE, to become artists yourselves and, thus also a designer of this city.
