Johannes Kriesche
With every breath, we and our planet circle a life time around the sun. We owe this energy largely to the trees, which renew the cycle and without which no life would exist. As an old Sufi philosophy maintains: "If we succeed in connecting breath and consciousness, we are connected to the energy of life".
INHALING - let it flow - EXHALING - tree in the body - INHALING - rhythm of nature - EXHALING - abdominal breathing – INHALING - inside - EXHALING - outside - sea surf - INHALING – astronaut knowledge - INHALING - inspiration - EXHALING – letting go
The form of a tree as principle of growth and the view that, in ancient times, the lungs were considered wings of the soul. This interaction artistically inspired Johannes Kriesche to create his light installation "every breath you take". A large oval ring of LED tubes around an old, old tree lights up rhythmically. Several sections are colored, creating a poetry of color, light and sounds. Appearing between the color codes, are quotes of observations from the astronauts who have orbited the earth; describing it from above as a great miracle, with its sensitive, yet protective and seemingly breathing atmosphere...
The artist can be found in person during the Luminale from 18–21h.
For the past 10 years, Frankfurt artist Johannes Kriesche has been working with light art. His pictorial experiments on canvas, with paraffin and layers of glazed acrylic/oil, lead to his interest in the nocturnal cityscape, and his burgeoning development of light drawings as a contemporary art form. With the support of the Friedberg lighting company PROLED, he has been completed numerous light installations to date.
