BlauRaum is a light installation that bathes the Fahrgasse in Frankfurt in blue light. Loosely based on Novalis (1772-1801) - "giving the ordinary an unusual appearance, transforming the banal into a mystery”- the installation makes the hidden perceptible as a sensory experience by merging sensory perception, recognition and the fantastic.
BlauRaum = Blue Room = BlueLight + BlueSound + BlueDance
Ultra-violet light produces air pregnant with blue, recharging in blue the barcode “Fahrgasse Frankfurt” as a light drawing – associating clear cornflower blue, the colour of romanticism
An intangible humming in the air of electronically-generated sounds, associating blue, bright, dreamlike, eternally unfinished sound.
Every 30 minutes, dancers perform a 10-minute choreography among the Luminale visitors, associating: Blue dances!
Fixed speakers mounted on the streetlamps and mobile speakers worn by the performers moving through the Fahrgasse reveal layers and densities of BlueSound. When the performers approach each other, the sound space dances – sound vibrating as a duet, quartet, a BlueSpace Orchestra.
The art galleries, shops, bars and restaurants in the Fahrgasse are part of the BlueSound choreography, inviting visitors into their own BlueSpace.
BlauRaum is a light work consisting of blue dancing street space, blue dancing interiors and blue dancing Luminale visitors.
